Engineered Floors for High Rise Buildings

If you live in a high rise building and you want to have wood floors installed over a concrete subfloor, you have probably been told that you must use engineered, prefinished wood.

While there are many options available in engineered prefinished wood, for some customers, finding just the right design can be difficult.

Options include board length, width, thickness, wear layer (important if you ever want to resand the floor), stain color, type of finish and sheen color. Finding a sample that is prefinished that meets your exact criteria may be next to impossible.

At Kashian Bros, we have the flexibility to get exactly what you need. We can specify the wood species, the character of the wood, the width / thickness and length of the boards. We can mix and match stain colors to your exact specifications. And finally, we can help you select the right finish (waterborne finish, oil based, wax floors or our newest UV finish in just the right sheen (gloss) level.

Below is an example of Engineered, European Oak with a 5mm wear layer. The boards are 10” wide and come in long lengths up to 9’6” long. The sample on the left is fumed, which means that the color runs through the entire thickness of the wood (great if you ever get a scratch in the floor). The middle sample is a carbonized and the sample on the right is natural. Because these are engineered, they can be glued down directly over concrete (the glue has sound reduction and a moisture lock barrier). Specifications for the glue meets or exceeds most hi-rise requirements. The samples can be custom stained and final finish can be selected to meet your needs.
